
Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said today that the Government should take additional measures in the tourism sector. "Over the past months, the volume of air transportation and tourists has significantly increased in Armenia. However, despite the positive results, there is still a need for additional measures for the development and promotion of tourism in Armenia".
Karen Karapetyan instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the President of the State Committee for Tourism to study the possibility of further liberalizing or simplification of the visa regime for persons arriving in Armenia within 1 month and to submit proposals to the state administration. The General Directorate of Civil Aviation will present comprehensive proposals aimed at developing tourism, the air transportation market in Armenia, geographic expansion, and improving ticket prices.
The number of visits of foreigners to Armenia in the first half of this year exceeded 1.3 million, with an annual growth of 24.3%. In terms of the number of visits to Armenia, the first three countries are: Russia, Georgia and Iran. The number of visits by Russians has increased by 33.7% to 241 thousand. In the second place is Georgia, 151 thousand, with an annual growth of 11%. Iran is in the third place, 89.8 thousand, with an annual growth of 27.4%. The top ten countries are: the United States (17.5 thousand), Ukraine (12.7 thousand), the Philippines (10.9 thousand), Germany (7.8 thousand), France (7.6 thousand), India (4.3 thousand) and Poland (4.3 thousand).
