Armenia is ready to contribute to the development of the Iran-Eurasian Economic Union cooperation. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said in an interview with Iran's "Shargh" daily newspaper.
According to him, Armenia has initiated discussions over the establishment of preferential trade regime with Iran, as a result of which negotiations are under way. The President of Armenia expressed confidence that this cooperation can be beneficial for all sides, opening the market for Iranian products to a 180 million population. Member countries of Eurasian Economic Union will be given the opportunity to present their products on preferential terms in the Iranian market, he said.
Referring to Armenia-EU relations, the President underlined that Armenia does not contradict the relations with the Eurasian Economic Union. "Armenia is the shortest and safest route connecting Europe with Iran.
Armenia has close partnership relations with the EU and we are ready to provide platform for Iranian and European businessmen to engage in mutually beneficial activities, "Sargsyan said. He recalled that within the framework of the GSP + privileged trade regime with the EU several thousand Armenian products could be exported to the EU by zero customs. This circumstance, as noted by Serzh Sargsyan, may also serve as an additional stimulus for Iranian investors in Armenia.
