Western countries are interested in the possibility of investing in the free economic zone in Meghri after sanctions have been lifted against Iran.
Garegin Melkonyan, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments, told journalists after the government session that in this context Armenia is trying to create a favorable environment for companies to work with Iran. In order to make investors work in a free economic zone, it must be physical, have a delimited area, and provide the necessary conditions for the customs regime. By this decision "Meghri Economic Zone" CJSC was established.
According to Melkonyan, the CJSC will carry out relevant works within a three-month period aimed at the formation and registration of the executive body. "The development program will be later introduced. In terms of stage, the area-related works will be implemented, and in the future, when the zone is fully formed, an appropriate privilege will be provided, "the Deputy Minister emphasized.
