Armenia and China will sign an agreement on the safe use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the People's Republic of China.

According to the Government's statement, it is mentioned in the statement that the signing of the agreement will allow for the establishment of cooperation between Armenia and China in the field of nuclear energy, which will serve exclusively for the peaceful purposes of nuclear energy use. It also notes that nuclear energy will not be used to create nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices or for other strategic purposes.

During the collaboration, the parties will be governed by the United Nations Convention principles of the "Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons" of July 1, 1968, as well as the obligation to not supply these appliances, materials and technologies to a third country without written consent of the other party. The agreement regulates the conditions of bilateral cooperation in the field of trade relations and cooperation in the area of ​​nuclear energy and the protection of intellectual property rights.

A decision to develop the above-mentioned agreement was made during a consultation with the Armenian President on June 7, 2017 in order to increase the efficiency of relations between Armenia and China. Let us remind that Armenia considers the construction of a new nuclear power unit with a capacity of up to 600 MW, with the technology being built by Chinese companies.
