The Armenian government intends to continue the policy of structural reforms in 2018 by providing a relatively high level of economic growth. Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) Arthur Javadyan stated this at the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, presenting the CB's conclusion on the draft law "On the 2018 State Budget."
According to Arthur Javadian, next year it is forecasted to achieve a 4.5% real growth of the economy, which will greatly contributed by the growth of industry and services. In 2018, GDP growth in Armenia will largely depend on external developments, particularly the growth of Russia's GDP and high copper prices in the global market, as well as domestic factors driven by reforms and monetary expansion policies. It also refers to interest rates reduction. It is noteworthy that the investment climate improvement policy in Armenia will be accompanied by government support in 2018, particularly in export. The Central Bank forecasts next year the growth of investments, both from the private sector and from the state. Moreover, the Central Bank forecasts a large volume of private sector investments. The Central Bank also highlights the issue of ensuring high level of investment in the country's GDP.
Artur Javadyan noted that the year of 2018 predicts reduction of the budget deficit by 2.7% of GDP, which is an important condition for the stabilization of the state debt and its gradual reduction. The Central Bank considers it important to improve the structure of public debt, in particular, the replacement of external debt by domestic debt. At the same time, the Central Bank attaches importance to the introduction of internal debt management mechanisms, in particular through the expansion of domestic debt instruments.
