The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Armenian Investment Bank signed a grant agreement worth € 2 million from the means of Eastern European Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership Foundation (E5P Foundation) within the framework of Yerevan Solid Waste Program. It was signed by RA Minister of Finance Vardan Aramyan and Vice President of the European Investment Bank Vazil Houdak.

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and Eva Manik, E5P Managing Director of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development were also present at the signing ceremony.

Through the three components, the project will contribute to the improvement of solid waste management system in Yerevan. The first component is the construction of the first two zones of a new sanitary landfill and auxiliary infrastructure. The new landfill, which will be located near Nubarashen dump, in 12 km from the center of Yerevan and will reduce the adverse impact of the existing non-sanitary landfill on the environment, public health and climate.

The second component of the project covers the closure and recovery of the existing landfill after the new landfill site is put into operation.

The third component of the project will contribute to the preparation and implementation of such systems and facilities that will increase the recycling volumes by extending the useful life of the new landfill.
