Implementation of the Open Skies policy has resulted in flights frequency increase from "Zvartnots" and "Shirak" airports, said Sergey Avetisyan, Head of the General Department of Civil Aviation.

According to him, as a result of the adoption of the Open Skies policy, today 25-30 flights are implemented in Armenia every day. The passenger traffic of "Zvartnots" in Yerevan and Gyumri's "Shirak" airports in 2017 amounted to 2 million 553 thousand 914 people, which is 20.6% more than the index of 2016. "Unfortunately, our air transportation market is not yet diversified enough to have more direct flights to different countries of the world," he said, adding that there was a significant increase in the volume of freight traffic. Last year, Zvartnots Airport it made 22,324 tons of goods, which is 22.1 % more than the level of 2016.

The Head of the GDCA also referred to the General Aviation Zone Agreement between Armenia and the European Union, initially signed in Brussels on November 24, 2017. "This agreement gives Armenian airlines access to the EU's domestic market without restrictions, and allows EU airlines to leave for a third country from the Armenian market," Avetisyan said.
