Head of the Food Safety Inspectorate Georgy Avetisyan met with Deputy Chief of the Austrian Embassy's Technical Office in Armenia Nora Alanakyan and head of the "Organic Agriculture Support Initiative" project team David McGenhuber.

Welcoming the guests, Georgi Avetisyan assured that the Inspection Body is open to discussions and constructive cooperation on any idea which will contribute to the development of food safety and to more effective supervisory functions. Mrs. Alanakyan spoke about their programs, informing them that they are mainly targeted at the development of agriculture in Armenia aiming at reducing poverty in the country. In this regard, serious steps have been taken in the area of ​​organic food production support. As reported by Mr. McGenhuber, they have already helped 45 farmers to produce organic agricultural products as well as certify them as organic food. Mrs. Alanakyan also informed that the Austrian Embassy's technical office is preparing a series of seminars for professionals of interested state bodies to explain them what the organic market is.
