From December 26, foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) must be marked with a special sign.

According to accepted technical requirements, labeling is made on the product packaging, if the content of GMOs exceeds 0.9%. The “GMO” mark must be close to a single mark of circulation on the common market of the EAEU and must correspond to this mark in shape and size.

The transitional stage for business adaptation is 1.5 years. During this period, the production and distribution of GMO-containing food products in the territory of the EAEU is allowed, the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission reports.

Similar restrictions exist in the EU countries, in particular, in Germany.
