Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan visited the Ministry of energy infrastructure and natural resources fo discussing energy policy, long-term (up to the year 2036) development strategy of the energy sector, infrastructure investment programs, a number of issues related to the mining industry.
According to the Government Information and Public Relations Department, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of consistent implementation of programs to increase energy security, development of regional cooperation, increase energy exports.
The energy infrastructure and natural resources minister Ashot Manukyan noted that already inventoried list of location which has not gasification. There are 329 communities with 150 thousand people, which makes up about five percent of the population.
The ministry plans to submit concrete proposals for each community until July. The ministry discussed the possibility of gasification with partner organizations, and it will also be alternative solutions.
Referring to the implementation of the Prime Minister's instruction on inventory of licenses issued to the mining industry, Manukyan mentioned that the number of provided licenses is 463, of which 196 cases of industrial works are carried out, 51 Expired and from 28 metal mines is only operating 8. The minister stressed that the government will also issue general and specific recommendations for the further development of the mining sector.
Speaking about the program of modernization and partial extension of the period of operation of the second unit of the nuclear power plant, Ashot Manukyan said that the 2 / 3rd of work are near to completion. Designed from $ 205 million to $ 136 million was spent, saving up to 34 percent. Nuclear activities will be stopped for 60 days from May 10, to continue the programs.
The Prime Minister, speaking about the long-term (up to 2036.) development strategy of the energy system, assigned to finalize consideration of energy diversification, renewable energy resources, the level of energy dependence, regional programs, tariff predictability, and noted that it is important in terms of attracting investments .
It was reported that this year is expected 20-25% growth in electricity exports. Works are carried out to enter the Eurasian Economic Union's energy market. Market liberalization program in the energy sector will be presented to the government.
