New law on sanctions against Russia in the United States is not directed against Russia's neighboring states, including Armenia, Atlantic Council analyst, Ambassador John Herbst said in an interview with Voice of America. At the same time, the inevitable fall of the Russian economy, which will follow the application of new sanctions, may also have an indirect impact on Armenia.

"It is possible that there are unforeseen negative consequences for Armenia, Kazakhstan and other EEU members, and it is a pity."

According to political scientist Gevorg Melikyan, Armenia is too strongly connected with the Russian economy and the negative impact of the Russian economy is inevitable.

"It will have a direct impact on Armenia, both on transfers and import issues."

Former Pentagon analyst, Senior Researcher at the American Enterprise Institute, Michael Rubin, recalls that sanctions mainly refer to the Russian oil industry and cannot directly harm Armenia.

Because of the tense relations, Russia may also require the countries, which are in his alliance, to limit contact with the West.
