It has been widely reported by mass media that a large number of watermelons have appeared in the Armenian agricultural products market, which probably have an Azerbaijani origin, reports the Information and Public Relations Department of the Food Safety Inspection Body.
"We inform you that watermelons were imported from Georgia and Russia only in July-August of this year, totaling 1327 tons, of which 781 tons were imported only during the last week.
Let us add that the main volume of imported batches are from Russia, from 1327 to 1217 tons, which exceeds the volume of imports from Georgia (110 tons) more than ten times.
The accompanying documents provided for watermelons imported from both countries confirm that they have Russian and Georgian origin, "the statement said.
It was also stated that watermelons sold at outlets were Russian (Astrakhan watermelon). Though not in all cases they were labeled, which is not necessary for vegetable products, however, the sellers reported that watermelons were from Astrakhan.
