Italy's anti-monopoly body (AGCM) has fined Apple and Samsung for a total of 15 million euros for intentionally lowering the smartphone’s work rate, produced by them, the service said.

The Italian authorities launched an investigation against Apple and Samsung in January 2018. According to the Anti-Monopoly Body, companies have intentionally adopted such a trade policy that addresses the use of defects in separate parts to minimize their productivity and persuade consumers to buy new models.".

In addition, manufacturers offered users to update the software by not warning them about the consequences for the operation of the device.

“During a comprehensive investigation, the AGCM service found that Apple and Samsung were carrying out unfair commercial activities related to various software updates for mobile phones, which led to serious violations of the devices, thus speeding up the process of replacing them,” the service statement said.

Samsung has to pay a fine of 5 million euros, Apple - for 10 million euros.
