German Minister of Economy and Energy Peter Altmeyer said that the German authorities are hoping to sign an agreement on the transit of gas through Ukraine before operating the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

“We want Ukraine to continue to retain gas transit,” said the Minister at the Handelsblatt energy conference.

He said that it was possible to launch direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on this issue. According to the minister, before the start of the gas pipeline operation, an agreement should be signed that will take into account the interests of Ukraine.

Earlier News.ru wrote that the overwhelming majority of Germans do not consider the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline a threat to the country.
