As reported by IRNA agency, the heads of the central banks of Iran and Iraq Abdolnaser Hemmati and Ali al-Allak signed an agreement in Baghdad to launch a payment mechanism between the two countries.
The main purpose of the agreement is to remove barriers to the import of Iraqi electricity and gas from Iran. The mechanism should also be used to pay for other goods. The agreement was signed after negotiations between members of the delegations of the two countries, which were held at the Ar-Rashid Hotel in the capital of Iraq.
“At the moment, the public and private sectors have achieved a significant volume of trade, but there are problems in the area of interbank payments, and in this case, exporters face difficulties,” said Al-Allak.
